Donuts Done Right Krispy Kreme

Krispy Kreme is one of the oldest and the most traditional doughnut chains in the world. It had started in the year 1937 when Vemon Rudolph bought a secret yeast-raised doughnut recipe from a New Orleans French Chef, rented a building in what is now historic Old Salem in Winston-Salem, NC, and Began selling Krispy Kreme Doughnuts on July 13.1937 to local grocery stores. The delicious scent of cooking doughnuts drifted into the streets, and passers-by stopped to ask if they could buy hot doughnuts. So, he cut a hole in an outside wall and started selling hot Original Glazed® Doughnuts directly to customers on the sidewalk. Thus began the journey of krispy Kreme. It later on expanded throughout the years and with its strong franchising strategy is now one of the biggest doughnut companies out there. Its success story has driven many other companies to make and sell doughnuts too. It has recently step foot in India and has started opening its centres here. Citymax Hotels India Pvt. Ltd (Guys behind Gloria jeans Coffee)., the hospitality division of the Dubai based retail giant Landmark Group, has signed a franchise agreement with Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation to develop 80 Krispy Kreme stores in South and the West India over the next 5 years. The outlets here are keeping it very simple like its American counterparts. They sell doughnuts, Shakes and hot drinks and that is something I liked. I visited their juhu outlet as I had nothing to do that evening and wanted to spend some time chilling out.

Ambience

This branch is very spacious and has ample of seating space. You can either sit on sofas or on chairs which ever feels fit for you. It’s a spacious outlet and you don’t really over hear conversations. The setup of the outlet is similar to Gloria jeans but they have changed the looks of the interiors. Perfect type of place for spending hours with your friends chatting and munching to some of those delectable doughnuts

Service
The service here is primarily self-service however the staff on the counters are very energetic and extremely helpful. They make sure they give you the best recommendations and explain about each doughnut in detail just in case you don’t know much about them. They also proactively tell you about the offers they have which was a very good sign in itself. I must have asked them a number of questions on their doughnuts but they patiently answered them all. They also let us know which are their seasonal doughnuts as well as which are their basic ones.

Food

CV

As mentioned earlier the menu here is completely simple. Its doughnuts, Shakes and Hot Drinks. The Doughnuts here are of 2 types. They are rings and shells. The rings are the original glazed ones and the ones called shells are the assorted varieties with fillings inside them. At first I was very hesitant to order anything because I am so used to MOD but the staff here helped me out in ordering some. They also pro-actively let me know that you get a complimentary original glazed doughnut with each shake or drink that you order which was very positive. I ordered a Hot Chocolate, Silk Chocolate Shake and 2 assorted doughnuts Dream Cake and Kookie Krunch.

I also got 2 original glazed doughnuts with the drinks that I ordered. All of the doughnuts were soft, fresh and tasty :). These are the 3 words that described my experience best. The original glazed were really one of those good doughnuts I have had after another reputed brand. They were sweet, soft and very fresh in my honest opinion with a nice sweet glaze on the doughnut. These plain doughnuts go so well with your hot chocolate drink that I started dunkin my doughnuts :).

The chocolate dream cake has a chocolate filling inside. The best thing here was that the sweetness in both the doughnut and the chocolate filling inside was balanced. It wasn’t like one was sweeter than the other and it wasn’t too messy too.

The Kookie krunch had caramel custard inside and was ok in my honest opinion. But I think the original glazed were the best ones for me. One of my friends has also recommended the mango variants here and that is something I am looking forward to try.

Final Verdict
This place is great way to try some doughnuts while spending some time with friends and in general having a nice time. It is also a great alternative to a very major doughnut player. It also has an offer where you can get 4 doughnuts free over 8 donuts that you buy which is a great offer if you ask me. Krispy Kreme is definitely here to stay and gets a thumbs up. Heavy meal for 2 will cost you rs 500. And remember to hit the gym if you end up having too many sweet doughnuts :). Follow me on Twitter, Facebook & Zomato if you liked my reviews
