Woodside Inn by Neighbourhood hospitality has already been buzzing the city with its outlets in Colaba and Andheri. Opened in 2007 it was one of the first pubs in town that was not a brewpub and was serving craft beer to its patrons with the help of The Gateway brewing Company. It has been 10 years since then and whilst the brand has already been established for its craft beers and annual Burger fests there is more than meets the eye with the launch of its third outlet in Lower parel. With the increase in microbreweries in town this new outlet in lower parel brings to us a wide array of craft beer brands under one roof with the sole purpose of enjoying the best of the best. With a total of 25 taps here serving the finest brews from Mumbai & international beer destinations such as Doolally, Brewbot, The White Owl, Barking Deer, the Gateway Brewing Company and independence brewing company besides international varieties like Stella Artois, Hoegaarden etc they are surely one of the first to set a trend.
Whilst the focus has been on beer primarily there has been no stone unturned for a number of changes to the food menu too in the new outlet at LP. The food menu has been transformed to have more number of small plates and mains with a clear focus on dishes that are more elemental in nature with high on flavour and value for money. Chef Nikhil has tried to bring in a menu that is very balanced and gives equal importance to both veg and non veg dishes. So not wasting any further time here are some of the top dishes we absolutely loved in our visit there
Yea we are Starting a must have list with a vegetarian dish. The Roasted Cauliflower with hazelnut puree and brown butter vinaigrette is A vegetarian dish which was simple and had basic ingredients adding flavour to each bite. Consisting of roasted cauliflower slathered with some hazelnut puree and brown butter vinaigrette. The hazelnut puree was so well done that when combined with the cauliflower it definitely became the magic element of this dish
Charred Chicken Leg
A Chicken Leg cooked to perfection is the Charred Chicken Leg from the Small plates section. Consisting of a chicken leg marinated with a garlic based aioli for 12 hours and then grilled to a right texture served with baby potatoes and a Brava sauce consisting of Bell peppers, tomatoes and smoked paprika. A bite of the meat with the sauce and potatoes just showed the finesse with which this chicken leg was prepared
It was fairly surprising to have an octopus in this list. Whilst there are a lot of fish dishes that people love having the humble octopus gets ignored and that’s where chef Nikhil planned to serve an octopus in the Woodside menu. Grilled octopus brazed and charred on a plancha (A plancha is a sort of griddle—a thick, flat slab of cast iron you place on your grill for searing small or delicate foods) and then served with a warm potato salad with smoked paprika and tomato. The potato salad is an element in this dish which can’t be ignored as that’s where the bulk of flavours arise from when combined with the meat.
Chef Nikhil has created simple dishes and this dish is proof of his thought process. A simple sandwich with fresh prawns and few ingredients make it one of the must have sandwiches here. Prawns poached in butter and then tossed in white wine and lemon juice served with a warm brioche bun and a homemade aioli. The secret of this dish is the warm, fresh and soft brioche that is used in this dish. Its freshness lets you enjoy the flavours of the other ingredients.
Classic Roast Chicken
The classic roast chicken is one of the best dishes here from the main course section that you definitely need to try. The guys at Woodside Mumbai don’t just make a roast chicken they create a dish so good that can be fed to the gods. A chicken brined for 24 hours and then marinated for a further 8 hours and then cooked to perfection served with a green peppercorn jus, duck fat roast potatoes and different types of exotic veggies. A dish fit for the gods. A must have at the lower parel outlet
A dessert made for the ardent beer fans. A dessert where the decadence of the tiramisu is combined with Beer. The Biramisu is the Woodside version of tiramisu with a chocolate Stout where the sponge is dipped in beer instead of coffee topped with Beer caviar. A Must have dessert at Woodside.
We also loved the New York cheesecake here but when compared to the Biramisu we felt the latter had the edge over the cheesecake
Whilst we loved the dishes mentioned above we wanted to give noteworthy mentions to the awesome pizzas that were served here especially the slow cooked tomato, mozzarella and basil.
The thin crust pizza made with simple ingredients was tangy, cheesy and crispy. So what are you waiting for head over to the Woodside Inn at Lower parel to try different types of craft beers coupled with some good food. We loved the place and recommend you to try it too.
